Patrick Rockcliff affectionately known as Eze of Guyana founded the Yoruba Singers in 1970. He is credited for his vision, dedication, and passion for African music. Eze’s leadership and unwavering commitment to the Yoruba Singers through the years have resulted in memorable performances throughout the Caribbean, Central and South America. His Drums of Passion album (1959) paved the way not only for a host of other releases of African music, but in many ways for the entire category of world music. In 1976, the Yoruba Singers performed at the Jamaica Carifesta, in 1979, the Cuba Carifesta, in 1981 Barbados Carifesta, and the Varadero Festival in Cuba. In 1982, 1983 and in 1984, they toured the Canada and the United States. Their performances were described as historic and remarkable leaving an indelible mark on the memories of their audiences.
