Description

Jack Lowry, a vital member of the Sunshine Awards stage production team, holds the crucial position of Audio Sounds Manager, ensuring the seamless integration of sound elements into the prestigious event. Inspired by the visionary dream of Gilman T. Figaro, Sr., Jack is dedicated to making a positive and enduring contribution to society by celebrating Caribbean art forms. Since joining the team, Jack has played a pivotal role in the planning and execution of the Sunshine Awards, contributing to the success of the program that began in 1989. Initially named “Calypso and Steelband Music Awards Inc.,” the program came to fruition on June 24, 1989, at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York. Jack’s expertise as the Audio Sounds Manager was crucial in realizing the First SUNSHINE Awards® Program, themed “A Reflection on the History of Calypso and Steelband Music.” On that historic night, Jack presented twenty awards, selected by a panel of independent judges, while well-known Caribbean artists graced the stage with stellar performances. The event also marked the establishment of the “Calypso and Steelband Music Hall of Fame,” co-founded by Dr. Hollis “Chalkdust” Liverpool, recognizing eleven lifelong contributors.

As the Sunshine Awards Program expanded its reach globally, recognizing unsung heroes from South America, Central America, and Africa, Jack’s role as the Audio Sounds Manager became even more significant. His attention to detail and technical expertise contributed to the program’s endorsement by the National Academy for the Recording Arts and Sciences in 1994, as well as the United Nations’ endorsement in 1998. Jack Lowry’s dedication reflects the Sunshine Awards Program’s commitment to embracing cultural diversity and promoting the concept of “unity in diversity.” His role in the performing arts highlights the program’s belief in the profound impact of cultural diversity on societal values, discipline, and ethics.
