Description

Jancy Ball, a valued member of the Sunshine Awards stage production team since 1989, has been an integral part of the program. Inspired by Gilman T. Figaro, Sr.’s dream to honor Caribbean art innovators, Jancy has played a significant role in executing the awards that began as “Calypso and Steelband Music Awards Inc.” On the historic night of June 24, 1989, at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Jancy contributed to the success of the First SUNSHINE Awards® Program, which was themed “A Reflection on the History of Calypso and Steelband Music.” Her dedication and expertise were evident as twenty awards were presented, selected by independent judges, accompanied by stellar performances from well-known Caribbean artists. As the Sunshine Awards Program expanded globally, recognizing unsung heroes from various regions, Jancy’s role in the stage production team became even more crucial. Her commitment aligns with the program’s endorsements by the National Academy for the Recording Arts and Sciences in 1994 and the United Nations in 1998. Jancy Ball’s contribution reflects the Sunshine Awards Program’s commitment to embracing cultural diversity and promoting the values of discipline and ethics through the performing arts.
